Hartford, CT – The national Society of Professional
Journalists announced earlier this week that the Connecticut Network has
received its prestigious Sunshine Award for 2007. Each year the SPJ’s Board of
Directors and Freedom of Information Committee recognize individuals and groups
across the country for their important contributions in the area of open
government.
“The addition of original programming, the variety of
events covered, the resources available on CT-N’s Web site and its outreach to
the community are…laudable and worthy of recognition,” according to an SPJ press
release issued Monday. CT-N joins the Seattle Times and FOI expert and advocate
Dr. Bill Chamberlin of the University of Florida in receiving the 2007 Sunshine
Award.
This recognition comes after the Connecticut Chapter of SPJ
awarded its Helen M. Loy Freedom of Information Award to CT-N in May.
“We at CT-N are positively overwhelmed by the accolades SPJ
has bestowed on the network this year,” said Paul Giguere, network President and
CEO. “The Connecticut Network strives to be a trusted resource within our state
for citizen engagement and open government. To receive praise from our
constituents in Connecticut has always made us tremendously proud. To be
recognized by the Society of Professional Journalists on a national stage is
both humbling and astounding, and we deeply thank SPJ’s board and FOI Committee
for this honor.”
SPJ will honor CT-N and the other award recipients at its
convention and National Journalism Conference in Washington, D.C. in October.
CT-N is available full-time on expanded basic cable
statewide. Visit ct-n.com to find the
